Five Riverside

Five Riverside comprises self-catering/holiday accommodation in a Grade II listed house on the riverside in Barnard Castle.Ā The house is in a unique location. It sleeps six very comfortably and offers amazing views of the River Tees and Barnard Castle’s castle.
Situated in Teesdale, Five Riverside is in the perfect location for walking, bird watching, photography and touring the wonderful North East.Ā Barnard Castle is a lovely market town to wander around. The centre is only a 5-minute walk away.
It just has to be the location. Ā Few views can top the one from the large sash windows on the riverside of the house.Ā Watch the River Tees in all its many forms (and depths). Enjoy the backdrop of the 12th century English Heritage castle with its own views over the Tees Gorge.Ā The house is Grade II listed. It has an airy light feel and exceptional views from the riverside and gable end rooms.
Five Riverside was refurbished in 2016 and is furnished in a style which should make you feel happy and relaxed.
The entrance is on the ground floor, which leads to a cloakroom (extremely tiny but very convenient!) and the kitchen/dining area. This area is the most beautiful of this house with a modern kitchen, magnificent dining table and views from the big sash windows on two sides of the River Tees and the castle.
Stairs lead to the lower level where you will find a comfortable lounge with plenty of sitting space and a wall-mounted TV. There is terrestrial TV and a licence for the property.
On the first floor are three light and airy bedrooms and a large bathroom with a separate shower. Bedroom 1 has a king-size bed and views downriver; bedroom 2 has a double bed and view over the river and the castle, and bedroom 3 is a large twin room.
Beside the house are steps to the riverside (only accessible when the river is low!) and an opportunity to see the varied wildlife (particularly birds) close up. There are beautiful riverside walks both upstream and downstream – explore!
Barnard Castle is home to the Bowes Museum, housing the collection of John and Josephine Bowes. The Museum is thought to be one of the finest museums in the North of England.Ā Ā Built-in French Chateau style it is famous for its Silver Swan automation which dates from the 18th Century.Ā It is operated once every day at 2 pm.
Barnard Castle has a large selection of antique shops and is a friendly town with its regular market on a Wednesday and farmers market on the first Saturday of every month.
For those enjoying outdoor activities, Teesdale offers so much!Ā If you’re looking for activity days or lessons in kayaking or similar, contact the TCR Hub in town.Ā Many local walks (the house is on the edge of the Teesdale Way) and Teesdale and the North Pennines AONB are treasure troves of stunning landscapes, rivers, meadows and wildlife.
Raby Castle is a short drive from Barnard Castle.Ā The 14th-century castle is intact and surrounded by 200 acres of parkland where herds of deer roam and ornamental gardens.Ā There are many family activities on offer. High Force, England’s highest waterfall is within easy reach.
The city of Durham is a drive away, as are the many attractions of the North East, including the beautiful coast.Ā For those preferring the hustle and bustle of a city, Newcastle is within easy reach.
Children are welcome; however, families must make contact before booking to discuss some of the features of the house.Ā
Unfortunately, they are unable to accommodate pets due to allergies.

The house is on the B6277, which can be reached from the South via the A67 Bowes junction on the A66 or from the North through Barnard Castle. Ā Parking is on the street, a very short walk from the front door.
The nearest mainline train station is at Darlington, and a No 75 bus goes to Barnard Castle.
